From developer to VP

The two most recent roles are at the same regulated-fintech company. I started there writing code and I still work hands-on on the architecture. What changed over the years is how much of the result is on me.

2023 — Present

Vice President of Technology Development

A RegTech company of 40+ people · AML/KYC platform for institutional financial clients

Responsible for engineering strategy, architecture and infrastructure across most of the product portfolio, with 13 engineers in two locations.

Set the engineering strategy and roadmap for most of the product portfolio, working directly with the CEO, the CDTO, product owners and the business, BI and commercial teams.
Took platform capacity from a monolith that topped out around 100K to several million transactions and API calls a day. That 20x+ increase is what let the company take on institutional clients instead of turning them away.
Lead 13 engineers (8 remote, 5 on site) across development, QA, DevOps and IT, and still work hands-on on the architecture.
Designed and delivered a monitoring platform of about 30 microservices, and led a team of three on an onboarding system of about 28: a REST/gRPC gateway in front of single-purpose processors coordinated with SAGA orchestration.
Led the move from IIS to Docker to Kubernetes. I run the edge, the cloud setup, hosting and CI/CD across three build and deployment systems.
Built an agentic AI framework of 25 to 30 microservices that automates AML/KYC review, brought in a secure on-premise LLM setup, and set up the delivery process from nothing.

2018 — 2023

Senior / Principal Developer

Same company, before the platform was re-architected

Built the core AML/KYC screening and a large number of third-party integrations, plus platforms for government, municipalities and banks.

Built the core AML/KYC screening and integrations with many third parties, including leading global sanctions and adverse-media data providers and eIDV and identity-verification vendors.
Delivered platforms for government bodies and municipalities covering document management, billing and payments, connected to national and international payment providers.
Worked closely with banks on risk and compliance management systems.
Wrote a lot of ETL pipelines, SQL CLR assemblies and REST and SOAP APIs for client data ingestion and third-party integrations.

2017 — 2018

A production web application for an enterprise professional-services client

My first job in the industry: a production web application on .NET and SQL Server.

Built and shipped a production web application with .NET, Aurelia, SharePoint and SQL Server.
